Comparative and International Education I

The role of education in political societal reform and the formation of modern nations are of vital interest for those involved in the field of comparative education. Specific to East Asia, this is my primary field of research. My interest in this field was triggered by my experience as a high school teacher and textbook writer in China (Hong Kong and Peking) from 1992 to 2003. China has a dangerous tendency to utilize nationalism in an attempt to achieve stability within China and neighboring East Asian countries. As such, I am interested in researching how China, Taiwan, Honk Kong, and other neighboring nation’s official opinion of its identity are reflected through education and other facilities (such as museums). The aim of my lectures is to better recognize and understand the relationship between nationalism, shaping of identity, and education from international and East Asian points of view.
