Social History of Education

My research subjects is the history of Japan-China relations and, with the methodology of social history, I seek for the development of women’s education in modern China. Previous studies, which deal with the relationship between Japan and China, call the period from the end of nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, especially from the 1894 Sino-Japan war to the construction of Republic of China in 1911 as “thoneymoon era.” With the historical documents regarding the movement of people and goods in both Japan and China concerning the institutionalization of women’s education in modern China, I seek for the modeling of women’s education system of Japan by China and the mystery of the construction of “honeymoon era” between two countries in this period.
